F1 in India, the event so far...

We are currently in Hyderabad, India providing 80 pc's and full support for our clients software training seminar

Thursday - The journey begins now...
No direct flights on Thursdays to Hyderabad so it’s 7 hours to Dubai, 2 hour stopover then 3 hours onto Hyderabad. Arrived blurry eyed on Friday morning at 4:00 a.m, bought some Rupees then headed for bed.

Friday

Up for lunch and a meeting with the IT manager and a guided tour of where we will be working.
Evening meeting with the shipping agent and a run through of the delivery plans for the following morning, where the hotel representative ensured us there would be no problem with getting the truck through security, “the guard will know!” “the guard will know!” Okay, excellent.
Then we head into the restaurant for a 5 course “Kebab Feast with unlimited beer” superb!  ,,,,,,,,,,,,, crawled to bed.

Saturday

At the venue for 8:00 in time for the kit delivery,,, and the guard does not know! and he won’t let the truck in. After frantic hand gestures and a phone call the guard now knows and the truck is let in, Phew!
Along with the fab hand painted truck we have a small army of helpers who hand ball the kit up to the second floor and distribute the kit to the three rooms, this is hard work but we manage it.
We get all 80 machines connected up and internet tested by midday,,, now we only need power. By 1pm the power installation guys arrive and ensure us it will only take a couple of hours to lay the power.

21:00 Power,,, we have power,, never in doubt. All machines powered up and the decision is made to leave them on overnight this is the best way to fully test the power.

Sunday
8:30 Onsite, we still have power!! Machines still on and the final configuration is complete by 23:00 so we shut down all the machines to allow the power guys to replace cables on the UPS.

17:00 After the go-ahead the machines are all powered up again, all looking good.

17:05 POWER CUT ,,,,, all looking bad. Confusion reigns, much head scratching. Power back on,,,, no wait it's off again.

19:00 Chief UPS electrician is called for, meanwhile all machines left off.

20:00 Chief UPS man onsite,,,,, power back on and every room looks perfect,,, so now we have confusion, why did the power go off? Mystery solved, another UPS man had switched off the mains power so we were running solely on batteries which then ran out. They did discover that two batteries were faulty and they wanted to change them the following morning just before we were due to begin.
I said “NO NO please make the change at the end of the day and NOT before the event starts, we are in a working situation now, NO changes tomorrow morning!! Please”
They said (UPS chief and engineer) “No problem to change battery in the morning as they can even keep the power on while they do it”
I said “NO NO NO please do not change the batteries until after the event finishes”
They said “ok, change batteries at the end of the day”
I said “thanks”
So we left for the evening with all machines powered up ready to go.

Monday SHOW DAY!
8:00 onsite unlock the rooms and NO POWER ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Run down the corridor and a 3rd new UPS man is,,, yes you guessed it ,,,,changing the batteries and to do this he has shut off the power! Ok batteries were changed and power was back up by 8:30, all machines tested and all ok, phew mental breakdown on hold for another day.

Tuesday
Infrastructure working well, power and internet all ok, client very pleased.
Fantastic Samosas with the coffee break

We have three more weeks at this event and hope that we will have some time to take a look around and hopefully visit the city, so there will be many more up-dates coming your way...
